Biomass
Relatively rough statistics show that about 10 million
tonnes of corn and rape straw is being burnt in the fields each year.
The question that arises is whether Poland can afford such a wastefullness,
or perhaps the mentioned products of harvest could be used in a better
way? The answer seems to be simple, namely local heating plants, which
process organic material (the so-called biomass) into heat energy.
Economists and specialists of the economic development all over the world
are searching for new technological solutions that would also be economical.
This concerns not only petroleum market but also the power sector.
Another factor is adjusting our economy, as well as power industry, to
the requirements of the European Union. One of the necessary changes will
be reducing heavy metals emission and environmental pollution, by the
Polish industries. It is important to mention that power industry generates
large amount of pollution, especially the heat and power plants that use
brown and hard coal.

Heat from straw
Generating 'clean' energy - from power of water, and renewable sources,
that is wind, gas and biomass - has been an important issue all over the
world for years. | > |
Wind Energy
The use of wind is one of the essential opportunities for Polish power
industry, since wind is an inexpensive and ecological source power. The
European Union experts estimate that the power generated by wind turbines
in Poland in 2005 could be 600MW, and in 2050 - already 6000MW.
